There isn't much fanfare for the new crop of visitors who have come in this month, but what they encounter is quite wondrous. Is it a cruise ship? Is it a hotel? Is it a tiny planet? No one can give them a straight answer, but all are encouraged to take part in the buffet, where visitors may find an assortment of foods both familiar and unfamiliar to them. There is an open mic night happening in one of the lounges on site, featuring staff and visitor performances. Or there are a handful of shops to browse if you're amenable to trading.

Visitors will find that the Hotel Multiverse at the Edge of the Cosmos between Canons (its official name) is very much alive beyond the bustling crowd. In fact, it might just be listening to you and anticipating your needs.

As for the rest? Well, that's up to you. You may as well socialize, right?

[ there appears to be Just Some Guy chilling in a lounge. The Lounge Where The Open Mic Is Happening, to be precise. jim's in street clothes: a dark brown leather jacket, grey t-shirt, and jeans. he seems to be completely avoiding eating the food, seeing as he's got a plate with a couple of things on the table next to him but seems to have vetoed putting them in his mouth.

he does have a drink though, something translucent amber in a lowball glass that catches the light. he's watching the little skits and performances and looks pretty relaxed. he's vibing, if you will. ]

[ the Chris Pine army is upon us. despite the fact that space is definitely a new experience for him, FDR is parked at the bar like he owns it, swirling the contents of his glass before emptying it in a single gulp.

he is wearing a suit that has no business being as expensive as it is, tailored to fit him. he’s undone his tie and is looking at his phone, tapping at the screen that clearly reads: no service. looking amused, he glances over at the nearest person. ]

What do you suppose the ramifications are for not showing up at work because you’re in space?

[Elim Rawne is leaning on the bar, sipping a drink, wearing jet black military fatigues. He looks up when he hears a question.]

Depends on what their absence policy is.

[ the lounge is nice, despite the bustling of servers here and there. steve sits at a booth, elbows on the table as he watches the performance on stage. he's almost transfixed, mouth slightly agape as he takes in the sight of dancing and singing. he's been to plays, sure, with his parents - but this is different. he folds his arms, head tilting, before his milkshake arrives. it's strawberry-vanilla, cherries and whipped cream served up with a spoon and straw.

steve plucks the straw out of its paper package and slides it into the ice cream, taking a long sip to allow it to flow upward. he's alone, fingertips mixing the shake with his straw. he glances back at the stage, eyes on the performers, before he takes another sip. ]

[ Mike wanders around, carrying a plate of a variety of foods, both familiar and unfamiliar, looking for a place to sit.

Before he can find a spot, he spots the back of a familiar head. ]

[ He steps forward and pokes his acquaintance on the shoulder. ]

[There's a certain blue box parked in the hotel. Anyone with extra senses will feel that The Box is alive. Anyone using a scanner will also get a very high energy reading from The Box. The owner has his tie around his forehead and walking around and sort of Moon Walking with a glass in one hand. The glass is full of some kind of blue substance.]

Where are you from?

[ It's been a few years — about 4, actually, for Mulder — since he's last seen his buddy, the Doctor. After wandering around the ship for a while, Mulder can't help but recognize that bright blue box he became so familiar with.

Confused, he peers around, looking for his old friend. What, had the man switched faces again? The Doctor had told him he does that sometimes.

Mulder eventually tracks down his friend and comes up behind him, quiet as he can, hoping to startle him. ]

[ oh, sure, the food looks and smells delicious, but McKnight is here to party like the fucking rockstar that he is. anyone who knows him (do you know him? my condolences) is unlikely to be surprised by the fact that he is guzzling down two of the largest drinks the bar has to offer with a meager but growing crowd chanting for his efforts.

once empty, he smacks them down on top of the bar and lets out a wolfish howl before getting another one. look, he just saved a freaking city from nuclear disaster, he has earned this and then some. when in Rome, do as the Romans would do.. in space. he can question it later, right now all he wants to do is partake in purely wholesome activities that definitely are not far too mature for this studio audience.

hot babes, libations for days — this is some kind of heaven. so, are you part of Team Obliterated or Team Karen? the latter need not apply, but anyone else he spots without a shot in front of them? not on his watch, bro. he is sliding a shot down to them with a two-fingered salute. ]

Drink up buddy— hold up, what’s the legal drinking age in space? Ah! Who fucking cares! [ unless you looking too young, then he is reclaiming said drink with some heavy side eye, not going from hero to zero tonight, boys. ]

Damn, they even have milk carton kids in space. Where’s your mom? [ and is she hot. ]

[He doesn't have to offer her a shot- Caitlyn is standing at the bar (quite awkwardly) and holding the most ridiculously bright, neon-green drink. It resembles more radioactive water than a cocktail. She had given it a sniff or two, even a small sip, quite wary of it.

When the shot was slid her way, she politely pushes it back,]

Thank you for the offer, I still need to, well, deal with this monstrosity.

[It's a big cocktail glass. She's not a drinker. This can take a while.]

1. [Is it smart to challenge the best shot of Piltover in a game of darts? No. Is she going to say no to the challenge? Also no.

She's standing in front of one dart board, counting the darts she has in hand, then calculating the score on the table. It's been a while since she picked up a game just for fun. The ridiculous neon-green drink that was nudged in her hands when she arrived is resting quietly in its toxic-green glow on the little table. She's giving it a sip every now and then- it's not as bad as it looks- then walking up almost excitedly to the next person.]

2. [If not by the darts, Caitlyn is sitting idly in one of the booths, listening to music she never heard before. Perhaps she shouldn't have had that drink, things are a bit woozy. Looks are deceptive, a lesson she constantly need to remind herself of. BUT she's not drunk, that's important.

It sucks being stuck here alone...

Whoever approaches to sit down next to her, she greets with a small polite smile and scoots to the side to make some space.]

( she takes a sip of the magical drink and squeals in delight as it tickles its way down her throat and into her stomach. with a salute to the bartender, she makes her way to a booth. it's pretty packed now with a bunch of people singing so she sits next to a pretty lady with blue hair. )

Yeah, but I love it so far. Way better than school.

[And over here is a man who looks like he's never had a day of unregulated, unplanned, unstructured fun a single day in his entire life.

The angel is over by the very edge of the bar at the lounge, big billowing wings already rapidly fading out of sight. Not really enough space in here for them, is there? He's definitely not doing it to keep from sticking out; just shy of seven feet tall and dressed in blue and gold robes, he really doesn't look too concerned about blending in.]

Excuse me.

[You, yes, you, whoever it is he's managed to lock in on, with a tone not unlike a perturbed high school principle about to voice his concern about students using their heelys in the hall,]

Are you a regular patron here?

[Rawne looks up. And up. He's not used to seeing people that tall without full armor on. But this guy isn't a Space Marine. He thinks.]

No. I'm new here. I assume you are, too?

[Elim Rawne is in military fatigues, but he's propping up the bar nonetheless, nursing a drink. People here are, well, not that much weirder than his usual crowd, but certainly more colorful. Much fewer skulls in the decor, as well.

His drink runs low and he gestures to the nearest person.]

What's your poison? I'll buy a round.

Oh, thanks. Ah, you know, I've been drinking scotch but I think a beer is better for this round.

[ He accepts the drink after the bartender passes it to him, and he lifts it in a cheers to his benefactor. ]

the shit she took yesterday morning before they recorded that god forsaken song for the 40th time has certainly warn off by now. she barely had coffee and was at least able to drift off to sleep at a reasonable time. ( reasonable for her. she did go out dancing with holly and the girls beforehand to let off some steam. )

she had woken up with a start on the shuttle - and, look, a little space opera movie is still in development in her time, so she has nothing to compare this experience to, especially since she didn't want to see 2001: a space odyssey with peter. the attendant gave her a quick rundown before she and the others were welcomed into the hotel.

the very sight of the stars through the panoramic windows is utterly breathtaking and she somehow is equipped with her small writing notebook. for the most part, she's at the bar, nursing a blue drink and occasionally chewing on the end of her pen. )

( diana, now with some liquid confidence, approaches the small stage in the lounge where a staff member slides a very overwhelming-looking keyboard toward her. the neon lights throw her off and she stares at it for a long moment before leaning toward the mic. )

I don't know what I'm doing. But here's a song I've been workshopping.

( when she opens her mouth, a warm, buttery voice comes out to sing a slow version of her song "bright." )

luckily, the audience isn't there to pay attention to him, regardless of how his fingers itch to pass over his keyboard, how much he knows he has to prove, one way or another.

but tonight, he's content with hosting, with playing hot potato with an instrument that surely would cost half of his yearly salary with all its bells and whistles.

a woman takes her place on the stage. the woman also seems out of her element, even if she quickly recovers. the woman sings. the woman leaves.

winslow doesn't know how he does it, but he reads the next name on the list, sets up a backing track, and he is off that stage, shooting after in a frenzy. ]

Hey! Wait - what do you mean "workshopping?" That was great! Really.

[ one thing about ari: she loves an open mic. and this one is cozy, isn't it? even within the glowing neon confines of wherever this is, ari finds herself seated nicely on the carpeted floor (which - yeah - you know that bowling alley bus seat carpet? you know it. it's that), full attention directed to whoever is on stage at any given time.

she's a polite guest! she respects art! she claps enthusiastically, she whoops, she whistles when appropriate. if you're up there, and you're stammering due to nerves, she's that one soul in the audience yelling, "you got this!"

when it's all music she's heard before, though, doesn't that defeat the purpose? music is the universal language, after all - but really, if you're going to bear your soul, original art is the way to go.

the third swiftie of the night exits stage right and ari leans over to the person closest to her. ]

[Kara is not a stranger to interplanetary travel, having done that many times with her biological parents when she was younger. She was hesitant leaving National City behind (being its primary protector and all) but her arm was twisted and she was reassured that nothing will happen while she's taking a break. The blonde had been exploring the lounge, taking part of the buffet briefly (quickly grabbing and horking down a few potstickers) because she wanted more time walking around, trying to discern if the technology and the interior looked familiar to her knowledge. She had been absently making mental comparisons when she wandered to the area where an open mic night was happening. An overly friendly staff member ushers her towards the stage, encouraging her to perform anything her little visitor heart desires, her protests, unfortunately fell upon deaf ears.

She slowly turns around, protecting her eyes from the glare of the spotlight shone upon her. After adjusting to the brightness, she puts her hand down, adjusting her glasses while giving the crowd an awkward chuckle and wave, tapping the microphone to actually check if this thing was on (it was). She squints looking to the side seeing that they have a decently sized orchestra employed, sitting there and giving her their full attention.]

Uh, hi there! I'm Kara. [A beat.] From Earth. [Might not be the best idea to mention she's from Earth-38 specifically just yet.] Uh, apparently everyone's welcome to come up here and perform... I guess.

[She pauses, her mind quickly coming up with an idea.] So! To thank our lovely hosts for inviting us and to introduce myself, [And hopefully find anyone who's from her Earth or at least Earth-adjacent.] I'm gonna sing you a song, "New York State of Mind".

[Kara glances at the orchestra, a little nervous that they might know what she's talking about but she immediately hears a familiar piano intro. She takes a deep breath and finally, she sings.]

[It's as if her awkwardness and shyness faded away. It was just her, the orchestra and her voice, reaching out to anyone from Earth who was hopefully familiar with Billy Joel.]

( the queen needs a moment to recover from the chocolate mania she experienced over at the buffet. nursing a mug full of plain peppermint tea, she's seated at a small booth with a good view of the performances. from the rock performances to moving soloists, there's so much talent on this ship/hotel/thing!

when kara from earth finishes her song, elsa enthusiastically applauds. it's not a song she has heard before, but it does inspire her to approach the young woman with a small smile. )

[To say Elizabeth is unsure of what to make of this place is an understatement. The inns in her time are far less colorful than this, a cruise ship isn't something that exists quite yet in her time and planets are definitely not her forte.

Yet for all it's gaudiness and all it's dizzying traits Elizabeth is having a shockingly good time. As she's said before her courage always rises to the occasion and nothing is more true than this moment.

In the area where the open mic is there is naturally instruments. One piano draws Elizabeth's attention, a beautiful instrument without the glitz and glamor of the other things called 'keyboards' that she can't quite grasp how to use just yet.

She trails a hand along the keys gently, only the faintest of tones escaping as she smiles at it.]

To think I should be flung into a place so far from what I typically know that you should be a sight for sore eyes! What that poor teacher would think of seeing me now.

Kalecgos, not so far away, heard the sentiment - and it made him smile. "It's interesting, isn't it," he asked, "to see that some things are in common even here."

He'd noticed a few things, himself. Furniture seemed to be the same, and human - or humanoid - sizes remained. But then he had to ask, "Have you seen their inkpens?"

sporadically throughout the night, when he's not caught describing the scenery in great detail to his tape recorder ("diane, first thing tomorrow, put in a memo to gordon. this would be a fantastic place for the bureau's christmas party. i'll see if i can catch a lead on any rental details"), dale cooper is going to pick through this array of free food. he's a simple man: focus on the proteins. scoop up some bread. and then? and then?

that dessert buffet is getting demolished. and don't think for a second this is standard buffet fare. forget prepackaged cheesecake and jello. this is the definition of homestyle.

yes, kids. we're talking about pie.

cooper has a sampler on his plate - apple, key lime, rhubarb (it's only good for a month every year!), and, of course, cherry.

it's a tremendous amount of food, really. certainly enough to comment on. and the way it has next to no effect on his energy levels is a miracle in itself. in fact, it doesn't seem to weigh him down in the slightest, and he's carrying his plates from location to location, taking in a little bit of everything.

i mean. rather here than the black lodge, amirite?

eventually, cooper settles, nursing pie slices reduced to crust on his saucer, and he makes his way to the enormous windows on one side of one of the lounges. here, something seems to come over him, and for a long moment, he's still. he starts to say something, closes his mouth, takes a breath, lets out a low, long whistle. ]

Ho-ly smokes.

( there are possibly too many doors. too many portals to somewhere. elsa is, of course, grateful to have the ability to visit her friends in storybrooke - and with a whole maine-appropriate wardrobe waiting for her!

but what's happening here? elsa's not entirely sure.

she has heard of these space fantasies before. the visuals aren't as mind-boggling as they might have been a few years ago. but still, she's a bit annoyed to be taken away from everything again, especially after finally getting to just. sit at her desk and look at paperwork. it's the introvert in her. she loves being showered with affection by her family, but sometimes a woman has to hunker down.

but now she's here, forced on vacation into space, and while she isn't the happiest to be swept away, she does find the spread of food to be a mild balm on her soul. sure, she'll indulge in sensible bisque first. perhaps a cheddar biscuit on the side. but soon her next tray is stacked with all types of chocolate. ganache, mousse, and ice cream.

she just happens to be sitting quietly with her cakes and bowls of goodness when a stranger seems to express a thought. )

It's all quite good, isn't it?

[ Oh, and there's a dinosaur here too. Because why wouldn't there be, right?

Devil Dinosaur isn't exactly thrilled about being here without Lunella -- he spent a good ten minutes at first stomping around and roaring for her -- but he's pretty much calmed down. He trusts his Moon Girl to find him when she needs him, so for now he'll just try to enjoy the new sights and sounds.

Oh, and tastes. The enormous red T-rex is definitely a fan of the buffet, though he's at least trying not to gobble everything down before anyone else gets a bite. Once he's sated, he can be seen here and there, curiously peeking at anything he's not familiar with. For a two-ton carnivore, Devil is remarkably peaceful and friendly. ]

[ the guy who climbs the stage next doesn't look much like someone who'd be actually good at singing. the blue hair might help the image a little, maybe, but the muscular arms coming from the sleeveless shirt speak of a man who spends far too much time at the gym. his eyes are large, doe-like, and he flashes a smile at the crowd. ]

What's up my fellow stuck in wherever-the-fuck-this-is audience. My name is Jasper and I'll be your siren for this evening. [ hah ] Or at least for the next five--three? Two?--okay, big man at the bar says I get two songs, so two songs it is. First is dealer's choice and after that I'll take requests from the crowd, skipping everything I don't know, which is more than I care to admit.

[ it's easy not to expect much when the music starts up, but something so... light doesn't seem right, somehow. and then he opens his mouth and starts to sing and the bright tone that leaves him is as equally unexpected.

he looks at home here, though, on the stage. some in the audience might be enraptured by his talent, others by the thin layer of "you're going to enjoy this" magic he always places under his voice when he sings, and others might not be affected at all. either way, his eyes are bright and happy as he finishes up the song and he points to the first person he makes eye contact with. ]

( this has been kind of a weird time for the band. with neon funneling funds into their promotion and the band having genuine talent and a good team behind them, it's not all bad, obviously. but the vibes have been off. partly because of the stuff with their lovesick bassist and a roadie having briefly disappeared without warning, and partly because of well.

look, neon doesn't want to think about the vibes between him and jasper. but when you're forced onto a god damn space shuttle, jettisoning into god knows where, you really start doubting your life. unlike the others, who have mostly followed staff suggestions to eat and be merry, neon has found much-needed spa time, his entire body having turned into jelly after that incredible massage.

maybe they do need a small vacation after this tour.

so imagine his surprise when he saunters into the lounge, a basket of fries in one hand and a fizzing purple cocktail in the other. his eyebrows go up and he immediately raises his hand to be called on. )

( he's more or less gotten over the shock of arrival by the time anyone really finds neon in the shopping district. interesting, he thinks, that all of these stores seem to tailor to his fashion interests - lots of vivienne westwood, japanese street style looks.

neon is dressed simply, in an asymmetrical button-down shirt and well-tailored jeans with freshly-painted space blue nails. the mane on his head does a lot to carry the look.

he's just stepped out of the dressing room with clothes to purchase when he looks you over and shakes his head, almost sad to give you some unsolicited advice. )

Dude, you need different color. It's a good foundation, though.

Wait, what? Who even asked you? [ i mean tbh probably your hair, girlie, that shade of hot pink is not vibing with ginger. ] Do you work here, or something?

[There's a towering thing wandering around the place. All dressed in pitch black, white as a ghost, dying apple branches twisting up out of his head like a pair of gnarled antlers. He takes up space, a lot of space, just past nine feet tall, and this place is a lot more crowded than the place he's used to.

Oh but he's fascinated though, inky eyes darting in every direction as he picks and plucks at everything he can get his hands on. Including people, watch out, it's been a while since he's seen anyone and he's very keen to reintroduce himself. There's absolutely zero effort made to move out of anyone's way, rather when things get a bit tight, the enormous black wings on the creature's back just lift up and away, not really caring too much if the feathers brush over some heads.

Ghoulish looking thing though, the pale skin is even more washed out by the near ankle length black hair, and the grotesque stitch-work on the entity's mouth is... less than attractive. He doesn't seem too bothered though.]

Her timeline is not season 2 compliant, so you don't have to worry about spoilers coming from me; I have seen it, so there's no need to dodge them generally on my account.]

A petite young woman* pauses in the doorway for a moment, taking in the scene in front of her. Behind her is a Brutalist concrete nightmare of a luxury flat, the room full of lush green plants.

Needless to say, this is not what Neriel was expecting, and yet... it fits with the theme of the last several weeks. Love in unexpected places, and hardly any in the place that was meant to be rife with it. Answers available for those who seek them, even if she's hesitant to go around demanding them. (That the building/ship/planet seems to be aware of its guests in its own right is hardly a surprise, either.)

She examines the buffet like all of it is a curiosity, but never seems to take anything to eat or drink no matter how long she lingers in the hotel. Occasionally, she can be found examining the goods in the various shops.

Mostly, though, what she does is sit near the open mic, genuinely applauding every performance. Music is the single most captivating she's discovered since deciding she'd have to go to Earth if she wanted any answers, and that's no less true here; even a beginner's performance has love behind it, and that's more important than technical skill. Besides, unless it's from The Sound of Music or someone else is somehow familiar with celestial harmonies, it's pretty much all new to her.

*One of these descriptors is true, anyway, and one out of three ain't bad.

There is a crow.

A reasonably large crow, in fact, one perhaps bigger than it should be—if it were from Earth, if it were mortal. But it isn't. And it winds up bopped into the seat next to Neriel, cawing furiously at whichever passerby got in the way of it flitting around the room, equally furiously preening as if it'd soothe such egregious offense.

But after a moment the crow stops, whips around to face the person beside it as if to study her, tilts its head in a manner perhaps too intelligent. More certainly, most crows don't have gleaming yellow eyes, do they?

Dust makes a small, low sound that seems to trill as it tips its head in the opposite direction then, hopping in place to better face her with its staring. Hello, after a fashion.

[The music here is wonderful, though the structure itself is... Honestly, Lucy Gray isn't sure what she'd call it. Certainly nothing she'd seen back home, but she does recognize a microphone when she sees one. And she is nothing if not a performer.

With her guitar in one hand, Lucy Gray approaches the microphone.] Well this is a little different than what I'm used to! Let's see if I can make it work. [She adjusts the guitar, smiles, and starts to play.]

At any rate, he's having a drink or three, kind of bored. Too bad Jack or Rosa aren't around - and not just because they're missing out on fucking space. Mostly he just doesn't want to be on his own.
