HAPPY HALLOWEEN
from
HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™

Guests who find themselves partaking in the Hotel's amenities quickly find some tricks afoot. The decor is first, neon lights changing to autumnal oranges, garish greens, and ghoulish purples overnight. Those who peruse the shops will find them stocked with masks and costumes, and the ambient music which plays throughout the ship is punctured by blood-curdling sound effects such as screams and anxiety-inducing musical stingers. This is Halloween.

Those who utilize the Hotel-provided devices will find an ad splashed across their screens. Similarly, TVs, phones connected to the network, and flyers posted will read:

"FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF OUR GUESTS, HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ IS HAPPY TO PROVIDE HALLOWEEN-THEMED ENTERTAINMENT."

Staff members' uniforms change, with employees adding costume pieces to them as the weeks wear on. Guests are strongly encouraged to put together a costume with pieces from the shops, but those who opt out will instead find one of the standard options (listed at the bottom of this post) and chosen at random (by googling "rng 1-19") in their wardrobe.

After dark (or, what would be dark), the ship transforms into a hotel of horrors, the following chaos breaking loose:

TRICK-OR-TREATING
Costumed guests are welcome to partake in trick-or-treating with the ship's staff, who can be found with carts of candy in common areas. Guests are also offered flags for their doorknobs to indicate that they have candy available in the rooms if they would like to partake as well.

SCAREZONES
Grab a map from the concierge or walk the halls at random, but don't be surprised if a staff member jumps at you from the shadows!

HAUNTED HOUSE
Guests using the hotel app will find numerous ads alerting them to a haunted house that's overtaken one of the hotel floors (and honestly, the ads are impressive, opening as an emergency alert to a runaway alien), and the hotel itself plasters the attraction across its screens and walls overnight as well. Obviously, a haunted house is a great thing to do after you've had a ton to drink, or a great way to meet fellow guests (whether or not you're reaching for their hand in fright). However, to ensure the safety of all team members and guests, do not make physical contact with any member of our cast. Remember: the actors' intention is to frighten you.

HORROR MOVIE MARATHON
Guests hoping to keep things a bit more low key might find what they're looking for in the hotel's movie theater and lounges, which offer 24/7 horror movie marathons ranging from the classic to the avant garde. A programming guide can be found outside of each respective screening or on the app. Film buffs will be delighted at the hotel's library, but don't be surprised if your niche fave is banished to a graveyard slot.

MASQUERADE
The hotel's ballrooms are open late for those guests interested in keeping the revelry going night after night. Just don't let the anonymity of your costumes take you too terribly far (or, I mean, do what you want, everyone has a room, after all).

If you aren't able to purchase a costume or aren't feeling inspired, no problem! Our courteous staff have taken the liberty of providing you with a courtesy costume, free of charge, to allow you to participate in the event. You will receive one of the following at random:

[Omori’s head tilted. He had actually be talking about video games but…

Darts sounded like fun!

He pointed with the knife towards a dart board further back in the room. It looked so lonely, didn’t it? It was practically begging to be played with.

So Omori decided to play Follow the Leader, walking towards their goal. He wasn’t tall enough to grab the darts, but he could see there were two distinct colors: Blue and Red.]

[with the one eye you'd think he wouldn't have suggested that but apparently not, his mouth got away from him. Luckily for them both, he's tall enough to grab them, choosing blue for Omori, and red for himself. Of course.]

Alright, alright. So when you aim it-- keep both eyes open.

[Hey, Omori isn’t judging. Depth perception can be adjusted, learned… maybe Badou had some sort of superpower that negated his one-eyed status. That would be pretty cool.

Plus, Omori wouldn’t have offered to play if he thought he could win easily. Maybe if Badou was an enemy boss… but even that wasn’t fun. A challenge was something he needed, even here, if only to keep his attention.

The boy flipped one of the darts in his hands, examining them. They were lighter than his knife (which he regrettably put away, for now). Such a shame, but… he could adapt too. Still, there was a slight quirk of amusement in Omori’s gaze at the other man’s words. Keep both eyes open.

You Too - his expression seemed to say, wryly, as he pointed at Badou. Your turn first!]

[if only he had super powers...Omori might be disappointed when he finds out Badou's just a normal guy.

The boy's expression, and what he interpreted from that look, has him chuckling] You can be a little shit, hmm? Alright, alright. I'll do the honors.

[eye(s) open!! he takes his dart in hand, lightly, and gives it a toss-- at least it hits the board!! way on the edge...]

[At least Badou would be the coolest ‘normal guy’ Omori knows!

Maybe if the man’s amused statement had come from anyone else, the boy would have felt anger. Since it came from Badou… the corners of his mouth stretched a little wider into a grin. Not confirming, not denying but… he could be a little menace, when he wanted to.

He watched attentively as Badou would up for the throw, a champion in the making aaaaand… hits the edge of the board.

Omori’s own shot didn’t fare much better. He was much more used to knives. Still, that was alright - they were just warming up.]

[oh he's absoLUTELY a little terror! Badou outright laughs, mouth stretched in a similar grin.]

C'mon, you can do better than that! Actually, we both can. Alright, time to concentrate.

[he takes the next one-- and it's still pretty much in the same spot]

[Badou’s words were like a well-timed punch, a satisfying Follow Up in combat… maybe the man thought he was bad at many things, but see - he would be a good support type!

Omori bounced on the soles of his feet, satisfied by the sensation of the shoes once more, as he watched…

And Badou did the exact same result.

So much for a Pep Talk -_-

His gaze was somewhat blank at the result, eyes a little hollowed out. Then, he focused on Badou again, giving him an expression like ‘that’s the best you can do?’

Omori’s own shot got closer to the middle; still a ways off, but at least it wasn’t at the edge of the board. Maybe next time he’d be able to ace it. The boy flipped the darts experimentally in his hands, testing their weight again.

Your turn.]

Hey! I did my best...

[but as soon as Omori takes his turn, and does just as bad, if not a tiiiiny bit better, he at least cheers the boy on]

So you're really setting the stakes high, kid.

[mayyybe its a little closer again? it was a sloppy throw]

[That small mote of praise pleases him - and is a challenge in and of itself. Something that makes him want to do better.

Omori studies Badou’s next throw. Sloppy as it might be… there was a few centimeters worth of improvement. That had the boy nodding in some form of approval.

Improvement was progress. It didn’t have to be all at once - as cool as that would have been.

Omori’s next throw hits a bit closer to home. He’s getting the hang of this. Sunny might be good at games, but that translates over to Omori too.]

[Omori does a little better, visibly so, than Badou did, and the tall man whoops loudly, arms in the air]

HEY, MAN!! LOOKIT YOUUU! [he's as excited as he would be for a bullseye]

[Omori would never admit it, but the praise felt nice. It was both a foreign but warm feeling, a tingling in the otherwise empty void, and yet… it also felt premature.

He hadn’t gotten a bullseye yet.

Which just made him want to achieve that outcome that much more.

The other effect Badou’s encouragement had was that Omori seemed to mirror it, in his own way. Wanting to cheer Badou on, wanting to see the man improve - Omori had faith that he could. So the child pulled out his knife, flipped it once, and then pointed it straight at the dart board.

A captain pointing the way for his crew.]

[Badou notices the boys' encouragement, of course he does, and what can he do put put in even more effort? he'd be an idiot not to try. he snaps a salute and nods, taking up the dart again.

eye wide open, he holds his breath-- and again, it's incrementally closer]

Maybe I'll get a bullseye by the time the sun sets.

[An increment was still progress in Omori’s book!

But no… Badou, it wouldn’t be by sundown, it would be before!

Welcome to Omori’s knife throwing boot camp! ~~When did it become that? Don’t worry too much.~~

The child walked over to the dart the man had thrown, inspecting it with all the seriousness of someone on a murder mystery case, before returning to Badou’s side.

One dart held in the child’s hands as he mimed the correct technique to throwing - gripped just so, arm flexible yet held straight, with enough force behind the throw to get the dart to stick in the board.

He looked to Badou expectantly after that. Seems like he wasn’t going to throw a dart this turn.]

What, you're not gonna go again?

[like he's also in a boot-camp, he stands at attention, still doing a salute, a sloppy one, his gaze follows Omori's directions.

he takes a deep breath as he tries again--- and actually makes good progress! The second circle in!]

YO!

[Nope! The drill instructor isn’t going to throw a dart unless it’s to demonstrate! ~~Or put a recruit in their place, but Omori’s not doing that. Yet.~~

Omori does a pleased hop, knife pointed skyward, as Badou’s hit lands - and it’s significant progress!

Maybe they will have to go get snow cones as a reward afterwards…

Pointing the knife at the board - AGAIN!]

Again?? [but he laughs-- Omori's determination is adorable, he's really going to get Badou throwing decently or ELSE. it warms the heart

he nods again, though, smiling, and more progress! A full new ring!]

Someone ought to hire you.

[Badou’s improvement was astounding, but Omori liked to think his advice was helping… after all, a good Pep Talk was certainly effective in any situation!

Once Badou mentioned work thought… his enthusiasm faded back to a neutral state. Meh. Omori liked to be able to go where he wanted and do what he pleased. Being hired meant he was held to standards and had to listen to someone else… not appealing.

~~Plus, a certain shark boss already tried to hire him for free. Didn’t work out~~

For now! More progress was required! Badou was getting closer to his goal, but would he make it in time?!

Omori hopped to the nearest wall, drawing a snow cone with his knife, and then stepped back. Like the sight would be a great motivator for the man. Everyone knew snow cones were the ultimate prize!]

[Badou follows his gaze, his drawing, then tilts his head quizzically, humming]

What, you want ice cream?

[Oh. Oh no. Now they were both thoroughly distracted!

Omori shakes his head. Snow cones were superior to ice cream, see? ~~By who’s logic? Who knows!~~

More scribbles of the knife on the wall. An ice cream ‘X’d out, another drawing of a snow cone with confetti around it.

Then, the child rushed over to Badou and threw his knife at the board. Bullseye!

See? ~~Probably not.~~]

Oh--

[so it was the board, okay-- that's about all Badou has time to think about before the kid's throwing the knife--]

HELL YEAH! Okay, was that the board? That was damn impressive, dude.

[The praise had Omori feeling good - even if it had just been an easy throw. ~~His knife was much easier to hit with than a dart.~~

Except… as the child pulled the knife from the board, he realized it had left a sizable indent. Oops. Hopefully that wouldn’t affect things…

Anyway-

Back to practice! Omori believes in you!]

[Badou, too, sees the indent annnnd-- he's going to also ignore it. if it can't see them, they can't see it etc.

Pumping his fists, he takes another dart, breathes in, lets it out and throws it-- better progress, even!]

Well?

[Hey, maybe the indent will close up like all of Omori’s etched words faded - even now, the drawing he had left before was healing. Except the board wasn’t… double Oops.

Maybe it was meant to be a clear marker. Maybe Omori had overused the auto-healing system of this place. Maybe… something as impermanent as him actually left a lasting impression…

He wouldn’t think on it too hard. Right now there were more important things to deal with - like Badou’s amazing progress!

Omori mimed clapping, no noise coming out, and then tapped his wrist - like a reminder that Badou had a deadline to keep to. But still! The corners of the child’s mouth twitched upwards. Badou was making progress and that was… satisfying. Like watching a friend Level Up.]

C'moooon! This is like when a parent catches a kid smoking and makes 'em smoke the whole pack... [not something he ever experienced, thankfully

You don't wanna take another shot? Make it interesting?

[The child’s dark gaze stared blankly at that. He had no idea what Badou meant, but… this sounded like a challenge.

Alright then! Time for the instructor to show him how it’s done!

Omori picked up another of his own darts, feeling the weight again (or lack thereof, it really was easier to aim a knife), aimed, and let loose.

The dart didn’t make bullseye, but it was in the second to center ring.

The child pointed to his result. Beat that Badou! He’s challenging you!]
