HAPPY HALLOWEEN from HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ Guests who find themselves partaking in the Hotel's amenities quickly find some tricks afoot. The decor is first, neon lights changing to autumnal oranges, garish greens, and ghoulish purples overnight. Those who peruse the shops will find them stocked with masks and costumes, and the ambient music which plays throughout the ship is punctured by blood-curdling sound effects such as screams and anxiety-inducing musical stingers. This is Halloween. Those who utilize the Hotel-provided devices will find an ad splashed across their screens. Similarly, TVs, phones connected to the network, and flyers posted will read: "FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF OUR GUESTS, HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ IS HAPPY TO PROVIDE HALLOWEEN-THEMED ENTERTAINMENT." Staff members' uniforms change, with employees adding costume pieces to them as the weeks wear on. Guests are strongly encouraged to put together a costume with pieces from the shops, but those who opt out will instead find one of the standard options (listed at the bottom of this post) and chosen at random (by googling "rng 1-19") in their wardrobe. After dark (or, what would be dark), the ship transforms into a hotel of horrors, the following chaos breaking loose: TRICK-OR-TREATING Costumed guests are welcome to partake in trick-or-treating with the ship's staff, who can be found with carts of candy in common areas. Guests are also offered flags for their doorknobs to indicate that they have candy available in the rooms if they would like to partake as well. SCAREZONES Grab a map from the concierge or walk the halls at random, but don't be surprised if a staff member jumps at you from the shadows! HAUNTED HOUSE Guests using the hotel app will find numerous ads alerting them to a haunted house that's overtaken one of the hotel floors (and honestly, the ads are impressive, opening as an emergency alert to a runaway alien), and the hotel itself plasters the attraction across its screens and walls overnight as well. Obviously, a haunted house is a great thing to do after you've had a ton to drink, or a great way to meet fellow guests (whether or not you're reaching for their hand in fright). However, to ensure the safety of all team members and guests, do not make physical contact with any member of our cast. Remember: the actors' intention is to frighten you. HORROR MOVIE MARATHON Guests hoping to keep things a bit more low key might find what they're looking for in the hotel's movie theater and lounges, which offer 24/7 horror movie marathons ranging from the classic to the avant garde. A programming guide can be found outside of each respective screening or on the app. Film buffs will be delighted at the hotel's library, but don't be surprised if your niche fave is banished to a graveyard slot. MASQUERADE The hotel's ballrooms are open late for those guests interested in keeping the revelry going night after night. Just don't let the anonymity of your costumes take you too terribly far (or, I mean, do what you want, everyone has a room, after all). If you aren't able to purchase a costume or aren't feeling inspired, no problem! Our courteous staff have taken the liberty of providing you with a courtesy costume, free of charge, to allow you to participate in the event. [She looks back at him and nods as she enters the room. She creeps forward into the room, keeping her head on a swivel as she goes.]

It might actually be safe in here...! [She probably shouldn't say that.] I guess we can just hide in here until...until... Hey, how long should we hide in here...?

[he follows slowly, slowly, looking behind them to make sure nothing'll spook them]

Maybe like twenty minutes.

[ribbonbon]

[She lets out a quiet "Hmmm" as she sits down on a beat up looking crate.]

I think I can handle twenty minutes. It should at least give us a break from all the scares. I never realized a haunted house could be like, so exhausting.

[That probably has more to do with the running part than the scaring part, but still.]

[he sighs in reply. it feels nice to rest, but he still can't relax completely]

They should have free drinks here, like, vending machines in all the hallways. Non-haunted.

[She idly kicks her feet as she leans back a little.]

Ugh, that would be so cool. Maybe just a nice little no scares allowed chill out zone. With snacks, too. I always get super hungry when I get scared.

[brokeassgoing]

Yeah! A place to pass out when it gets too intense. [another sigh. he wants to smoke, but it's not too bad yet]

You go to haunted stuff like this a lot?

[ribbonbon]

Like, no way. I'm kind of too for Halloween stuff like this. But I've got so much free time being here, I thought, you know, why not?

[She says this like she's not sixteen.]

What about you? Is this kind of stuff like, your thing or...?

[brokeassgoing]

True, they do seem kinda fun. Screaming with each other.

[a shake of his head] Hell no! I'm usually working, or going to shows or something. This is all new so I figured I'd see what it was about.

[ribbonbon]

To be honest, I thought it would be more like, plywood monsters on springs or sheet ghosts on wires. Not creeps in masks hunting me down the hallways...

I guess it's probably fun for people who like this sort of thing. I usually can't even deal with scary movies...

[brokeassgoing]

Oh no, that's lame...come on, you can take scares cooler than that.

What about thrillers? Like slasher ones?

Guh-!

[Lame! An adult just called her lame! She sputters for a moment.]

No way! I hate those movies the most...In some of those movies, the killer isn't even a ghost or a monster. It's just like, a guy with a knife or whatever! That could really happen!

Well, yeah. Maybe cause I'm used to The Horrors that I can still go outside and not be afraid of that....what kinda movies do you usually watch?

[ribbonbon]

...The horrors...?

[She sort of gives him a look because what is that supposed to mean? However she soon snaps back to attention.]

Oh! I mean, I guess I watch the same stuff that most people like, you know? Like... [sappy romcoms!] ...comedies and... [Cute movies about talking animals!]...totally fast-paced action movies!

[It's probably pretty obvious that she's lying.]

The horrors. [apparently not elaborating:] Hmmm...that was totally convincing. While I like action movies, the sappy movies are nice, too.

[She sort of makes a face. Anything that someone just calls "The Horrors" can't be good.

She sputters again. Even if he can tell he's lying, she wishes he wouldn't just say it! Darn! Still, she unsuccessfully tries to play it cool.]

...You think so? They're...not so bad, I guess. A lot of the girls at school really dislike them, though.

[uh huh. he may not have been a teenage girl once, but he can remember being young]

They do? Well, that's a shame. They're missing out. They can be cozy kinda movies. Cartoons too.

I...guess you're right. It is just kind of nice to like, chill out and watch a really cute romcom or something. And cartoons can be pretty fun...I'm like, totally way too old for them, now, though!

[She MIGHT watch them once in a while. If they happen to be on. Maybe.]

Maybe I'll see what movies they have here once Halloween is over...Right now they're doing a bunch of horror marathons. [She groans.] Like anyone needs it with a haunted house around.

I've watched a couple, they're damn good. [he grins-- the thrillers, still so good!] They want that money, miss.

I tried to watch one earlier just to see if I could get through it, but I like, totally couldn't deal. [A sigh.] I wonder if that masked creep is still looking for us...

[another 'eh' sound, very helpful] Does it matter? What's mature anymore? Buying a bunch of figures or buying a bunch of cars? You're still doing stuff you like.

[he reaches over to pat her shoulder consolingly] I can peek my head out in a minute and see.

...I never thought about it like that before. It's just that people just say that you stop liking certain things when you get older...

[She supposes that makes sense. Just because you get older, there's no reason you have to stop liking what you like. This whole time, she just assumed that's what happened.

When he volunteers to take a look, Pauline nods sharply.]

Thanks. If things are clear maybe we can try finding our way out of this haunted house stuff...

That's because they're miserable as shit and want other people to be too.

[he's glad he eventually realized that pretty early on

sighing a little, he rises to his feet]

And get some food, too. I could eat.

[so reluctantly, so slowly, he should have let the teenage girl check but he's hard boiled, dammit!!]

Ugh, me, too! Halloween candy is nice but some real food would be awesome. All this running around has me like, totally starving.

[Even though he said he would check, she still gets up from her seat and follows his lead but keeps her distance.]

[and he's moving as though in slow motion, knees wobbling and totally not hard boiled at all! slowly, slow, slow--

he reaches for the door and lets it creeeeeeeak open]
