HAPPY HALLOWEEN from HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ Guests who find themselves partaking in the Hotel's amenities quickly find some tricks afoot. The decor is first, neon lights changing to autumnal oranges, garish greens, and ghoulish purples overnight. Those who peruse the shops will find them stocked with masks and costumes, and the ambient music which plays throughout the ship is punctured by blood-curdling sound effects such as screams and anxiety-inducing musical stingers. This is Halloween. Those who utilize the Hotel-provided devices will find an ad splashed across their screens. Similarly, TVs, phones connected to the network, and flyers posted will read: "FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF OUR GUESTS, HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ IS HAPPY TO PROVIDE HALLOWEEN-THEMED ENTERTAINMENT." Staff members' uniforms change, with employees adding costume pieces to them as the weeks wear on. Guests are strongly encouraged to put together a costume with pieces from the shops, but those who opt out will instead find one of the standard options (listed at the bottom of this post) and chosen at random (by googling "rng 1-19") in their wardrobe. After dark (or, what would be dark), the ship transforms into a hotel of horrors, the following chaos breaking loose: TRICK-OR-TREATING Costumed guests are welcome to partake in trick-or-treating with the ship's staff, who can be found with carts of candy in common areas. Guests are also offered flags for their doorknobs to indicate that they have candy available in the rooms if they would like to partake as well. SCAREZONES Grab a map from the concierge or walk the halls at random, but don't be surprised if a staff member jumps at you from the shadows! HAUNTED HOUSE Guests using the hotel app will find numerous ads alerting them to a haunted house that's overtaken one of the hotel floors (and honestly, the ads are impressive, opening as an emergency alert to a runaway alien), and the hotel itself plasters the attraction across its screens and walls overnight as well. Obviously, a haunted house is a great thing to do after you've had a ton to drink, or a great way to meet fellow guests (whether or not you're reaching for their hand in fright). However, to ensure the safety of all team members and guests, do not make physical contact with any member of our cast. Remember: the actors' intention is to frighten you. HORROR MOVIE MARATHON Guests hoping to keep things a bit more low key might find what they're looking for in the hotel's movie theater and lounges, which offer 24/7 horror movie marathons ranging from the classic to the avant garde. A programming guide can be found outside of each respective screening or on the app. Film buffs will be delighted at the hotel's library, but don't be surprised if your niche fave is banished to a graveyard slot. MASQUERADE The hotel's ballrooms are open late for those guests interested in keeping the revelry going night after night. Just don't let the anonymity of your costumes take you too terribly far (or, I mean, do what you want, everyone has a room, after all). If you aren't able to purchase a costume or aren't feeling inspired, no problem! Our courteous staff have taken the liberty of providing you with a courtesy costume, free of charge, to allow you to participate in the event. I...guess you're right. It is just kind of nice to like, chill out and watch a really cute romcom or something. And cartoons can be pretty fun...I'm like, totally way too old for them, now, though!

[She MIGHT watch them once in a while. If they happen to be on. Maybe.]

Maybe I'll see what movies they have here once Halloween is over...Right now they're doing a bunch of horror marathons. [She groans.] Like anyone needs it with a haunted house around.

I've watched a couple, they're damn good. [he grins-- the thrillers, still so good!] They want that money, miss.

[And this is a teen who tries entirely too hard.]

I tried to watch one earlier just to see if I could get through it, but I like, totally couldn't deal. [A sigh.] I wonder if that masked creep is still looking for us...

[another 'eh' sound, very helpful] Does it matter? What's mature anymore? Buying a bunch of figures or buying a bunch of cars? You're still doing stuff you like.

[he reaches over to pat her shoulder consolingly] I can peek my head out in a minute and see.

...I never thought about it like that before. It's just that people just say that you stop liking certain things when you get older...

[She supposes that makes sense. Just because you get older, there's no reason you have to stop liking what you like. This whole time, she just assumed that's what happened.

When he volunteers to take a look, Pauline nods sharply.]

Thanks. If things are clear maybe we can try finding our way out of this haunted house stuff...

That's because they're miserable as shit and want other people to be too.

[he's glad he eventually realized that pretty early on

sighing a little, he rises to his feet]

And get some food, too. I could eat.

[so reluctantly, so slowly, he should have let the teenage girl check but he's hard boiled, dammit!!]

Ugh, me, too! Halloween candy is nice but some real food would be awesome. All this running around has me like, totally starving.

[Even though he said he would check, she still gets up from her seat and follows his lead but keeps her distance.]

[and he's moving as though in slow motion, knees wobbling and totally not hard boiled at all! slowly, slow, slow--

he reaches for the door and lets it creeeeeeeak open]

Anyone there...?

[Beyond the door are the sounds of other guests shrieking and laughing as well as the sound of various staff members pulling off scares.

Curious, Pauline quietly comes up behind him, trying to peek around him and whispers.]

See anything?

[that's certainly better than if it were completely silent

he gulps, though, voice strained]

No, it's completely dark out here.

Maybe that's a good thing. If we're not too loud, maybe we can avoid any of those scary dopes noticing us...

[Navigating their way out might be a challenge, but...]

[Badou is used to situations like this, and he's found he's always discovered...

but he has to have hope! he turns and offers her a tiny smile]

Yeah! We'll be fine.

Right! We'll just sneak around, super quiet, and we'll get out of this haunted house in a total snap!

[Even under normal circumstances, she tends to get lost in the hallways of the massive space cruiser but as far as she can tell, the haunted house seems to be deliberately confusing...]

[he grimaces, looking to the right, then the left]

Eenie, meenie, miney, moe...?

[Really...? She tries hard not to make a face.]

Maybe if we go back the way we came...?

[questioning because he's pretty sure]

[He sounds a little uncertain...but he's an adult, so she should just trust him, right?]

Okay! Left it is...! I bet we'll totally be out of here and eating dinner in no time.

[oh dear...noooo no this is the adult that should not be counted on. but we all have to learn that lesson sometime]

Yeah, some hot noodles or something, that sounds good.

[he takes the lead even though his knees are knocking and it's loud and dark]

[As they move forward, she keeps her hand on the wall to try and keep some sense of where they're going.]

I think I want like, a double cheeseburger. Maybe some fries or something, too.

[Just thinking about it causes her stomach to rumble.]

Oh man, that sounds good too..I could eat all that.

[he squints into the darkness, his breath trembling a little. he doesn't like this, but it isn't so bad-- if he looks close, there's some light upon the floor]

And a milkshake...and a sundae...

[She sighs as her stomach growls.]

We've gotta be close by now, right? This thing can't be that big, can it?

[brokeassgoing]

It feels like the damn hall is going on, but...I think I see the end there, see?

[he points, if she can see, towards the glow of a doorway] If it's another closet I'm gonna murder.

[ribbonbon]

It's gotta be the end. I mean, how many closets could be in here?

[A lot, realistically. As they walk, Pauline starts to hear an shuffling noise behind them, like the sound of something being dragged. She tenses up a little bit, reluctant to actually look back.]

M-Maybe we should like, go a little faster...

[brokeassgoing]

[Badou, at the sound of the shuffling, and the fear in Pauline's voice, only pauses for a millisecond before he grabs her hand again and tugs]

Oh fuck this, not again.
