YOU'VE JUST CROSSED OVER INTO -

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
from
HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™

Guests who find themselves partaking in the Hotel's amenities quickly find some tricks afoot. The decor is first, neon lights changing to autumnal oranges, garish greens, and ghoulish purples overnight. Those who peruse the shops will find them stocked with masks and costumes, and the ambient music which plays throughout the ship is punctured by blood-curdling sound effects such as screams and anxiety-inducing musical stingers. This is Halloween.

Those who utilize the Hotel-provided devices will find an ad splashed across their screens. Similarly, TVs, phones connected to the network, and flyers posted will read:

"FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF OUR GUESTS, HOTEL MULTIVERSE AT THE EDGE OF THE COSMOS BETWEEN CANONS™ IS HAPPY TO PROVIDE HALLOWEEN-THEMED ENTERTAINMENT."

Staff members' uniforms change, with employees adding costume pieces to them as the weeks wear on. Guests are strongly encouraged to put together a costume with pieces from the shops, but those who opt out will instead find one of the standard options (listed at the bottom of this post) and chosen at random (by googling "rng 1-19") in their wardrobe.

After dark (or, what would be dark), the ship transforms into a hotel of horrors, the following chaos breaking loose:

TRICK-OR-TREATING
Costumed guests are welcome to partake in trick-or-treating with the ship's staff, who can be found with carts of candy in common areas. Guests are also offered flags for their doorknobs to indicate that they have candy available in the rooms if they would like to partake as well.

SCAREZONES
Grab a map from the concierge or walk the halls at random, but don't be surprised if a staff member jumps at you from the shadows!

HAUNTED HOUSE
Guests using the hotel app will find numerous ads alerting them to a haunted house that's overtaken one of the hotel floors (and honestly, the ads are impressive, opening as an emergency alert to a runaway alien), and the hotel itself plasters the attraction across its screens and walls overnight as well. Obviously, a haunted house is a great thing to do after you've had a ton to drink, or a great way to meet fellow guests (whether or not you're reaching for their hand in fright). However, to ensure the safety of all team members and guests, do not make physical contact with any member of our cast. Remember: the actors' intention is to frighten you.

HORROR MOVIE MARATHON
Guests hoping to keep things a bit more low key might find what they're looking for in the hotel's movie theater and lounges, which offer 24/7 horror movie marathons ranging from the classic to the avant garde. A programming guide can be found outside of each respective screening or on the app. Film buffs will be delighted at the hotel's library, but don't be surprised if your niche fave is banished to a graveyard slot.

MASQUERADE
The hotel's ballrooms are open late for those guests interested in keeping the revelry going night after night. Just don't let the anonymity of your costumes take you too terribly far (or, I mean, do what you want, everyone has a room, after all).

If you aren't able to purchase a costume or aren't feeling inspired, no problem! Our courteous staff have taken the liberty of providing you with a courtesy costume, free of charge, to allow you to participate in the event. You will receive one of the following at random:

01: Ghost
02: Alien
03: Devil
04: Superhero (Your Choice!)
05: Skeleton
06: Pumpkin
07: Zombie
08: Vampire
09: Clown
10: Mummy
11: Werewolf
12: Black Cat
13: Pirate
14: Frankenstein's Monster
15: Witch
16: Spider
17: Bunny
18: Bat
19: Angel

[ Under normal circumstances, Boba would be intensely curious about encountering another child. On Kamino, the only other children Boba ever saw were clones, the same as him, and even then, he rarely interacted with them. Other, non-clone children were something he'd only read about in books.

Distracted as he is now and with his vision obscured by the hood over his face, it takes Boba a moment to even notice someone else sit next to him. He's too preoccupied trying not to think about the movie—and what his father had said. And not said.

Eventually, Boba does notice the other shape beside him on the bench, and his head turns minutely towards them as he observes them through his hood. Though details are difficult to make out through the fabric, he can tell from their size that they're likely another kid. Maybe they hadn't liked the movie, either? Boba doesn't say anything, but it does make him feel a little better to have someone else sitting in silence beside him. ]

[Well… this was new. Omori was used to everyone else talking… not him. Not that he had an inclination to speak. He didn’t even know what the other child might be thinking about.

Still… the costume the boy wore looked interesting. Almost like he could be some sort of creature, maybe? Not unlike the ones Omori had encountered - though it did make reading Boba’s reactions a bit difficult. A curious tilt of his head, as his legs swung back and forth on the bench. What to do?

Several more moments of silence followed. Then, Omori got up, walking away from the bench. If Boba thought he had been abandoned in any way, he was wrong, as the boy quickly returned. Sitting back down, he held out something towards Boba - a bag of popcorn.

Food always calmed someone down. Maybe it would even restore a bit of juice energy to the silent child. Omori dug into his own popcorn without a word, leaving the decision up to Boba.]

[ Boba doesn’t feel abandoned—he can’t really be abandoned by someone he’s only just met—but he is a bit sad when the other kid gets up and walks away. They’d given him something to focus on besides the movie and his father’s words and the terrible intersection between them. Plus, he feels more conspicuous sitting here alone.

Fortunately, the other kid isn’t gone for long. In a couple of minutes, he’s back, holding a bag of something—something he then holds out to Boba.

Boba blinks, surprised. He can’t even really see what it is through his hood, but since the other kid isn’t saying anything to clarify, he can’t think of what else to do besides take the bag. As he pulls it to himself, he smells butter and salt. What is this?

He can see the other kid begin to chow down on the stuff. He himself isn’t hungry—the movie had left him with a sick feeling in his stomach that’s only slowly starting to fade—but he is curious over what he’s holding in his hands.

Carefully, he reaches up and unzips the hood of his costume so he can see more clearly. In the bag are a bunch of puffy white shapes, steaming with heat. Whatever it is smells even better with his hood off.

He looks over at the other kid, who is still munching on his own snack. ]

Um… thanks.

[Omori wouldn’t force him to eat the popcorn, but it might help in some form - that was what had encouraged him to buy two bags. Plus the treat was a movie watching staple, if anything.]

[Being thanked for the act, however, wouldn’t normally be anything new. Do something, get rewarded - that was how the world worked (at least, his world). Still, Omori cast a curious glance - eyes dark - at the child.

[Did Boba seem a little pale? Omori couldn’t be sure, and honestly he couldn’t judge. His own hands, still grabbing a few kernels and popping them into his mouth, were paper white. He waited for some form of conversation to start… or not. Either way, silence together was better than silence alone.]

[ For a long moment, Boba just sits there, feeling awkward as the other child tucks into his snack. He knows he should be excited—here's another kid, and one who isn't even a clone! Truth be told, he is curious; it's just hard to feel as happy as he should with what happened to Zam still hanging over him.

Still, he makes an effort not to just curl up in his sadness and let this opportunity to meet another kid pass him by. He turns to the other boy and offers a hand to shake, just like his dad had taught him. ]

I'm Boba, [ he says. ] What's your name?

[Emotions were a tricky thing, weren’t they? On that regard, Omori could be considered fortunate to not feel many… but those that he did feel, he felt intensely. So, maybe, there was a small amount of disconnect between trying to figure out what Boba was feeling and what Omori was supposed to do about it.

The boy stared at the hand for a few moments. Did Boba… want a high five? But no, the positioning was wrong. Then… it finally clicked. The monochrome child’s own handshake was neutral. Not weak, not firm. Almost like he was unsure or hadn’t done the motion in a long while, but was attempting to reciprocate.

After that was done, he pulled out a knife, carving into the bench below them a single word:

OMORI

The word - name - remained for a few moments, just long enough for Boba to read and comprehend, before it disappeared. No damage done.]

[ Boba can't really judge the handshake. He hasn't really had many opportunities to practice himself given how rarely he meets new people.

When the boy pulls out a knife, however, Boba is immediately alert. It's not that he necessarily suspects the the other child of violent intent—but he has his training, and that training means he's automatically vigilant in the presence of a weapon. But the boy doesn't use it as such; instead, he uses the knife to carve a word into the bench he's sitting on—a name, Boba assumes. For a moment, Boba is worried that the boy will get into trouble if he's caught vandalizing the furniture here, but before he can voice that concern, the carving fades away as if it were never there in the first place. Boba blinks in surprise. ]

Whoa, [ he says, looking up at the boy—Omori. ] Cool knife. [ Does it just create the illusion of cutting without actually cutting anything? That must be useful for tricking people. ] Can you not talk? [ He then adds, a little embarrassed: ] It's fine if you can't. I'm just curious.

[personal profile] solitarynote 2024-11-04 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Omori becomes Happy. Most people shy away from the knife - Boba seemed different. At least, he complimented it, which was more of a positive reaction than most other people had.]

[Though his emotions mellow out a bit at the question. Not because it was rude or anything… Omori was just trying to figure out how to explain.]

Can… [The word left him, vocal cords rusty, like he hadn’t spoken in a long time. Voice like a grating whisper.] Not… used to it…
